What to expect
The Hamrahamrar route follows the river through woods and wetland toward the old scout hut. The round trip is about 8 km from Kjarnakot in Kjarnaskógur and shorter when starting at Hamrar; allow around 1–2 hours from Kjarnakot. Parts of the upper route are steep and can be wet, so wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Walkers and cyclists share some trails.
